Nile Rodgers is an American songwriter, producer, musician, composer and guitarist. He has plenty of great talents and he is one of the most respected artists from his own generation. As the founder of a disco group called Chic he produced many dance anthems with Bernard Edward.
Among their dance music anthems Le Freak and Good Times are the most famous ones. He produced many of the greatest hits of the 2000s such as Madonna's Like a Virgin or Daft Punk's Get Lucky. Many people who were born in the 90s may not know him well but he considerably contributed a lot to the music world. It can be said that we owe him a lot!
About
He was born on September 19, 1952 in New York and by the age of 19 he was already a known artist playing guitar at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. His mother gave birth to him when she was 14 years old and his father's name is Beverly Goodman. His parents were heroin addicts.
He also has a brother named Bunchy Goodman. His current partner is Nancy Hunt for almost 20 years and they have never married because they do not want any children.
Career
He introduced the group called Chic in 1977 with the collaboration of Bernard Edwards. They rocked the discos all over the country. They released their debut single named Dance, Dance, Dance and in 1978 they released their second single called Everybody Dance. Their third single was a major success that it hit number 1 in music charts which is named Le Freak.
In the 80s, Nile ended his partnership with Edwards and collaborated with David Bowie due to decrease in the volume of sales of their albums. However, this was not an end for Nile but a new and fresh beginning. Nile started working for other artists such as Madonna, Daft Punk, and Duran Duran and many others. As 2010, he also worked with Disclosure and tried to be active as before.
Personal Life
Even though he had a terrible childhood he believes that his childhood helped him to become the strong, rich, famous and loved artist as now. Their home was artistic as his biological father played with Paul Whiteman Orchestra and his step father was a mathematician.
He was using cocaine and alcohol but he stopped using them in 1994. In 2010, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer but he managed to survive. He currently lives in Westport Connecticut and NY.
