    Biography

    He was born in Washington, D.C. on the 27th of November 1955, Bill Nye is a holder of a Degree in Mechanical Engineering which he got after pursuing the course at Cornell University. He has also worked as a presenter on television and at one point was famous for teaching children scientific concepts on a television series show that aired in the 90s.

    Who is Bill Nye?

    Bill Nye is the son of Jacqueline Jenkins and Edwin Darby Nye, Bill’s parents both served in the army during World War II, his mother was a Math wizard and for this reason, she was recruited in the army as a codebreaker during the war. She used her skills to help the soldiers decipher the Nazi codes, she died in 2000. Bill’s father was a war veteran and was one of the few soldiers who managed to survive the Japanese war camp. Edwin Darby Nye later died in 1997 due to old age.

    After graduating from Cornell University, Bill relocated to Seattle to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering. Bill ended up having two jobs, a night job, and a day job; he was an engineer during the day and a comedian during the night. He used his engineering skills to help Boeing develop the hydraulics mechanism; he was also an instructor and took part in producing training films which were used by Boeing.

    Later in 1986, the comedian side of Bill took over and he resigned from Boeing and began his career in the entertainment industry. His care in comedy began after he secured the first place in the Steve Martin look-alike contest.

    Bill Nye the Science Guy

    Bill earned the nickname “The Science Guy” after quitting his job at Boeing. He got the name after hosting “Bill Nye the Science Guy”, a show that gained popularity during the early 1990s. The first episode of the show was aired on September 10, 1993. The show’s main goal was to teach children scientific concepts using the simplest methods that they could easily understand.

    The show turned out to be a great success and Bill was able to win seven Emmy awards by hosting the show and taking part in its production. The show, on the other hand, won nineteen awards and was used by many schools in teaching children different topics in science. The show, however, came to an end on June 20, 1998.

    Dancing With the Stars

    Aside from being an engineer and a comedian, Bill Nye is also a good dancer. He proved this when he took part in the 17th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”. During the contest, Bill tore a ligament and this contributed to his poor performance during the show. Bill and his partner Tyne Stecklein were the second celebrities to be eliminated from the contest.

    Bill Nye got married with Blair Tindall with whom he had a daughter Charity Nye. The two however got divorced in 2006.
