Yami Gautam, a well-known Indian film actress and model, was born on 28th November 1988. She has acted mostly in Hindi films but has also given appearances in a couple of Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam films. She is the celebrity brand ambassador of many products in India.
Her Bollywood career as an actress started in the year 2012 with the film Vicky Donor. The film was a huge hit and was critically acclaimed by both masses and critics. Gautam’s acting in the movie received positive reviews. She gained many nominations for her enactment in the film.

Yami Gautam's birthplace is Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. She was born to Hindu parents and was raised in Chandigarh. Her father known as Mukesh Gautam is a prominent Punjabi film director. Her mother and younger sister names are Anjali Gautam and Surilie Gautam respectively. Her sister made a film debut through a Punjabi film titled Power Cut.
After finishing school, Gautam got enrolled in college for graduation in law honors. Initially, she had planned to join IAS (Indian Administrative Services) but the fate had stored something else for her. In her 20's Gautam decided to try her luck in acting. At that time she was pursuing her law honors degree, however, she decided to leave her studies and give full time to her acting career. Recently, she has continued her education by doing part-time graduation in Mumbai. Her hobbies include interior decoration, reading, and listening to good music.
Movie career
Yami Gautam first made her big-screen debut in Kannada films. Then she moved to Bollywood and debuted in Shoojit Sircar's rom-com "Vicky Donor (2012)". The film included co-stars like Ayushmann Khurrana and Annu Kapoor. Gautam ‘s role was of a Bengali woman named Ashima Roy who falls for a Punjabi guy and after marriage gets to know about his past. Vicky Donor is also a production debut of famous actor John Abraham.
The film got massive approval from both critics and the general public and turned out to be a commercial success. It was one of the highest-grossing films of the year 2012 with worldwide grossing of US $3.9 million. Gautam’s acting was praised and she received various nominations and awards. Winning ‘Best Female Debut’ award at Zee Cine Awards and a nomination under the similar category in 58th Filmfare Awards are her some of the prominent accomplishments.
She took a two-years gap from Bollywood films and returned to appear in two films during the year 2014. The first film was "Total Siyappa" by Eeshwar Nivas co-starring Ali Zafar and the second film was an action thriller “Action Jackson” by Prabhu Deva co-starring Ajay Devgan and Sonakshi Sinha. Both of the films performed terribly at the box office.
The year 2015 proved to be lucky for Gautam as her movie “Badlapur” by Sriram Raghavan turned out to be a critical and commercial hit collecting the US $11million worldwide. Her co-stars in the movie were Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Badlapur was an action thriller which focuses on Raghu (played by Varun) who avenges the murder of his son and wife Misha (played by Gautam). Yami Gautam’s portrayal was applauded.
Gautam appeared along Pulkit Samrat in two romantic movies during the year 2016. The first one was "Sanam Re" by Divya Khosla Kumar and the second one was “Junooniyat” by Vivek Agnihotri. In the former film, her role was of a high school student who falls for Samrat's character and in the second film, her role was of a Punjabi girl whose love interest is an army officer. Both of above-mentioned movies were commercial letdowns.
In 2017, Gautam appeared in two films: one was “Kaabil” by Sanjay Gupta and the second was a political thriller “Sarkar 3” by Ram Gopal Varma. Kaabil was a romantic thriller co-starring Hrithik Roshan. The story of the movie is based on a blind man who avenges the rape of his blind wife portrayed by Gautam. Although both the film and Gautam’s acting got mixed reviews, the film was a commercial success collecting the US $28 million worldwide. Sarkar 3 on the other hand, failed at the box office despite having a spectacular cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpayee, and Jackie Shroff.
Next, in 2018 Gautam portrayed the role of a lawyer in a film with social cause titled “Batti Gul Meter Chalu” by Shree Narayan Singh. The film also starred Shahid Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma, and Shraddha Kapoor. The movie failed awfully at the box office.
In 2019, Gautam appeared in a massive hit military action thriller movie titled “Uri: The Surgical Strike” by Aditya Dhar. The film also starred Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Kirti Kulhari, and Mohit Raina. The movie is based on a real incident of 2016 Uri attack. Gautam successfully played the role of an intelligence officer Pallavi Sharma. The film got mixed reviews but still turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time collecting over the US $54million worldwide.
Modeling
Yami Gautam entered into the modeling industry after achieving a law degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh. She appeared in many commercials but the one that made her rose to fame was Fair and Lovely advertisement.
Personal life
There had been rumors of Yami Gautam dating a fellow co-actor Pulkit Samrat. The rumored couple got introduced to each other on the set of "Sanam Re" and later also worked together in "Junooniyat". Both Gautam and Samrat denied their romantic relationship rumors.
