Edie Arlisa Brickell who is known for her stage name as Edie Brickell is an American singer and writer who debuted back in the late ‘80s. She debuted her career with Shooting Rubber bands at the Stars that topped Billboard at position 4. Her entire career is spent as a rock star and neo-psychedelic singer. She even appeared as a folk singer and often sang the pop genre.
Brickell was born to the family of Larry Jean Sellers on 10 March 1966. Her parents Paul Edward Brickell and Linden spent their life in raising kids with the best standards. Though their occupation is not known. But that was good enough to assort Brickell’s career. Well, Brickell was born in Dallas, Texas and was raised with the elder sister, Laura.
After she qualified from her school, she got admitted to Booker T Washington High School to attend the performing arts classes. That became her career’s starting platform. Later she moved to Southern Methodist University that formerly gave a start to her music career. During the university days, she joined a music band that was later called Eddie Brickell & New Bohemians.
The music band Eddie Brickell & New Bohemians was the start of her career. Back in 1985 Brickell was called to perform with the high school friends and a local band called New Bohemians. The New Bohemians got inspired to her vocal skills and offer her the role of the lead singer. Soon as they got their first contract, they changed the name, adding Eddie Brickell to it. Three years later Brickell introduced her first album with her band that topped Billboard 200 at number 4.
One of the singles from that album “What I Am” was the poster success for that album. In 1990 she launched her second album but it had a different style, something like an inventive idea. But after the second album, Brickell with her band was just focused on the tours and singles. After 16 years another album came out called Stranger Things that received neutral critics. After another gap of 12 years, a fresh album Rocket has been introduced.
Besides the band, Brickell even focused on her individual music career. She made her initial solo performance in 1989 which was the feature soundtrack for Born on The Fourth of July. She got noticed her performance and was given another opportunity to sing a cover song for the film Flashback. Well, not the just the film industry, Microsoft even got inspired by her vocal abilities. Microsoft called her in to perform Good Times as the multimedia sample for the companion CD of Windows 95. That song was taken from her solo album, Picture Perfect Morning of 1994. The next time she launched her album was in 2003 called Volcano.
During her solo career, she even faced rejections. In 1992 she worked on the singles that were proposed for produced using electric sound effects which were never accepted by the recording studio. Unfortunately, they were never released.
Brickell’s career went slow but steady. By 2010 she decided to add another extension to her music career. For that, she introduced a new band called The Gaddabouts. Well, that band is still functional and their major performance is The Meaning of Life recorded for the film Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.
The Pink Panther star Steve Martin and Brickell patched up in 2013 to create a collaboration. By April, the duo introduced a bluegrass genre album Love Has Come for You. Just after the release of the album, the duo started appearing in the TV programs to promote the album by singing its songs. Their collective efforts resulted in ranking the album number 1 on the Billboard’s Bluegrass standings. Further, the album won the Grammy Award in 2013. Following the market leads, Breckell started her tours for the album. She accompanied Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers.
After the success of the album, Brickell and Martin started working on a musical theater performance called Bright Star. That was originally an inspiration the duo got from the success of their music album. In the very next year, they were cast for a documentary called The American Epic Sessions that won an award.
